Is Your Website Ready for Year-End Giving?

Sep 16, 2026Digital Marketing

Year-end fundraising may feel months away, but the experience you create now will determine how easily supporters can connect with your mission – and complete a donation – later.

GivingTuesday is December 1, 2026. Before sending campaign emails, posting on social media, or investing in advertising, make sure your website is ready to receive those visitors.

Take the Five-Minute Nonprofit Website Test

Ask someone who is not closely involved with your organization to visit your website. Give them five minutes to answer these questions:

  • Can they explain what your organization does?
  • Can they identify who benefits from your work?
  • Can they find the Donate button immediately?
  • Can they understand how their donation will make a difference?
  • Can they complete a donation easily from their phone?

Every point of confusion creates another opportunity for a potential donor to leave.

Six Things to Review Before Your Campaign Begins

  1. Clarify your homepage message

Visitors should quickly understand who you serve, what you do, and why the work matters. Avoid making them search through paragraphs of background information to find your mission.

  1. Make donating easy

Your Donate button should be easy to find on every page. Keep the donation process short, remove unnecessary fields, and clearly explain what happens after someone gives.

  1. Test the experience on a phone

Open your website and complete the entire donation process from a mobile device. Check button sizes, text readability, page speed, form fields, and payment options.

  1. Show the impact of a gift

Connect suggested donation amounts to tangible outcomes whenever possible. “A $50 donation provides…” is more persuasive than a general request for support.

  1. Use one clear call to action

Do not ask campaign visitors to donate, volunteer, register for an event, read your annual report, and follow you on social media at the same time. Choose the most important action and build the page around it.

  1. Confirm your tracking works

Make sure your organization can measure donation-form completions, campaign traffic, email clicks, and other important actions. Website traffic alone does not reveal whether a campaign is working.

Do Not Overlook Accessibility

An inaccessible donation experience can prevent people from supporting your organization.

Review:

  • Color contrast
  • Text size and readability
  • Descriptive link wording
  • Alternative text for meaningful images
  • Form labels and instructions
  • Keyboard navigation
  • Clear error and confirmation messages

Accessibility is not a final technical check. It is part of creating a welcoming experience for every supporter.

Your September Action Plan

Use September to establish your campaign goal, audience, message, and website needs. Complete the landing page, email sequence, stories, photography, and graphics in October. Use November for testing, promotion, and campaign execution.

A successful year-end campaign begins before the first fundraising email is sent.
